About the Role
Redimed is seeking an experienced Medical Practitioner or General Practitioner to deliver occupational health, health surveillance, fitness-for-work, medico-legal and advisory services across a diverse client portfolio.
Role Purpose
To provide high-quality occupational health, pre-employment, health surveillance, fitness-for-duty, medico-legal and medical advisory services that support client workforce health, safety and risk management requirements. The Medical Practitioner will deliver clinically sound assessments, evidence-based recommendations and professional medical opinions in accordance with Redimed's clinical governance framework.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Scope of Services
The practitioner may be required to deliver:
- Pre-employment medical assessments
- Coal Board Medicals
- Health surveillance assessments
- Fitness-for-work assessments
- Injury management reviews
- Telehealth consultations
- Skin checks
- Vaccinations (when required)
- Medical advisory services
- Functional and safety-critical worker assessments
Key Responsibilities
The Medical Practitioner will:
- Conduct occupational health assessments and examinations.
- Undertake pre-employment and periodic medical assessments.
- Review pathology, imaging and specialist reports where required.
- Conduct fitness-for-work and fitness-for-duty assessments.
- Complete health surveillance assessments.
- Deliver telehealth consultations.
- Prepare clear, accurate and timely medical reports.
- Provide independent clinical opinions within scope of practice.
- Maintain accurate clinical records.
- Ensure compliance with AHPRA and Medical Board standards.
- Participate in quality assurance and clinical governance activities.
- Maintain professional development and mandatory training requirements.
- Collaborate with Redimed clinicians, operational teams and clients.

Essential Criteria
- Current unrestricted AHPRA registration.
- Medical degree recognised in Australia.
- Professional indemnity insurance.
- Ability to maintain all licences, registrations and eligibility requirements necessary to provide services.
- Right to work in Australia.
- Strong written reporting skills.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound clinical judgement.
Desirable Criteria
- Fellowship of RACGP or ACRRM.
- Occupational and Environmental Medicine experience.
- Coal Board Medical accreditation.
- Rail Category 1, 2 or 3 accreditation.
- Health surveillance experience.
- Government assessment experience.
Highly Regarded Experience
- Occupational and environmental medicine experience.
- Experience conducting fitness-for-work assessments.
- Experience in safety-critical industries.
- Experience working with government organisations (such as WorkCover).
- Demonstrated ability to balance clinical, operational and safety considerations.
HOW THE ROLE OPERATES
Reporting Relationships
The Medical Practitioner operates under the clinical governance of the Chief Medical Officer and is operationally supported by the General Manager (Queensland).
The practitioner works closely with:
- Occupational Physicians
- Nursing team
- Multi-disciplinary allied health team
- Client Services team
Clinical Governance
The Medical Practitioner is expected to:
- Practice within scope of registration and competence.
- Participate in peer review and quality assurance activities.
- Adhere to Redimed clinical protocols.
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy obligations.
- Comply with relevant legislation and professional standards.
Professional Development
The practitioner must maintain continuing professional development requirements and remain current with:
- AHPRA requirements
- Medical Board standards
- Occupational health best practice
- Relevant industry accreditation requirements
Hours of Work
Redimed offers:
- Flexible consulting arrangements.
- Opportunity for telehealth services.
- After-hours services available by agreement.
- Travel requirements (if applicable).
- Ability to work from other Redimed locations.
The role is part-time, with preference for 3 days per week. The practitioner is entitled to be absent from the roster for a maximum of four (4) weeks or as agreed in writing.
Engagement Type
This role is engaged on an independent contractor basis and does not constitute employment.
GOVERNANCE
Licensing and Registration Requirements
This role and the Medical Practitioner’s continuing engagement is conditional upon the practitioner obtaining and maintaining any licenses, registrations, qualifications, checks that are necessary for the purposes of providing the Services (Eligibility Requirements), including but not limited to the practitioner remaining during the term:
-
registered as required in order to provide the Services, pursuant to the provisions of the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (WA) Act 2010 or any other applicable legislation, as amended from time to time; and
- licensed to practice as a Medical Practitioner under the authority of registration granted by the relevant regulatory authorities, including the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and the Medical Board of Australia.
