ANZSOM is pleased to announce the first in our

 "Occupational Medicine 101" series. This unique program is  designed to connect you with the fundamental concepts of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and enable direct engagement with some of the leading experts in our field.

 

Reflecting our Sunday morning timeslot, the online sessions will be informal and not recorded, so as to encourage participation and interaction. While ideally suited to trainees, all members will find this a beneficial format for exploring and sharing the essentials of our specialty.

 

The first session will feature ANZSOM member, Occupational and Environmental Physician and Director of Resile, Dr Robert McCartney who will provide an overview of occupational medicine - what it is, the pros and cons, the future of work and what it will look like, challenges and areas of focus.

About the presenter - Dr Robert McCartney

Dr Robert McCartney is a physician who has specialised in the field of Occupational Medicine for over 20 years. His career goal is to maximise the health, wellbeing and productivity of working people.

 

He is a Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine with the Royal Australian College of Physicians and a past president of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Occupational Medicine.

 

He has extensive experience in the prevention, diagnosis and management of occupational injury and illness. This experience combined with his understanding of internal risk context and business imperatives enables him to provide effective and efficient solutions to the employers whilst serving the needs of employees.

 

Dr McCartney is a Designated Aviation Medical Examiner with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, a certified Medical Review Officer with the Australasian Medical Review Officers Association and the Medical Review Officer Certification Council, a Nominated Medical Advisor to the Queensland Coal Mine Worker’s Health Scheme and consults for Workcover Queensland.

 

Dr McCartney was the first and only Chief Medical Officer to be appointed at Woolworths Group as a further measure to help keep team and customers safe during COVID-19.
