Showcasing the achievements of the Royal Adelaide Hospital Adult Burns Unit
The RAH Adult Burns Unit is renowned for its innovation in burns care and is the only centre in Australia verified by the American Burns Association (ABA) and American College of Surgeons (ACS). Every year, the Burns Unit treats approximately 450 inpatients and sees around 3,000 outpatient visits. We are proud to present two excellent sessions, highlighting the service's cutting edge technologies as well as practical essentials of early burns care.
A revolution in burns care at RAH Adult Burns Unit
Prof John Greenwood AM, Plastic Surgeon and Medical Director
Two cutting-edge technologies have revolutionised the management of serious burns at the RAH. This presentation will describe the journey from development to application of Biodegradable Temporising Matrix (BTM), a skin dermal replacement that temporises the burn wound while Composite Cultured Skin (CCS) is grown to eventually close the wound.
Practical burns management
Stuart Harper, Nurse Practitioner
Correct first aid, burns assessment and identification of potential complexities are critical to early burns management. Common burn injuries sustained in the workplace will provide the basis for discussion regarding early management and correct first aid. The session will also touch on referral pathways / resources and return to work issues.
